Coaches
It is the goal of SDFC coaches to promote the Olympic sport of fencing by developing skills such as coordination, quick creative thinking and the use of strategy. These skills carry over into everyday life and help adults and children alike get into shape, have fun and relieve stress. We have selected a highly professional and internationally trained group of coaches to meet our goals in educating members and helping all level of fencers to excel.
Gustavo Ducuing
- Gustavo is a master in all three weapons and specializes in Sabre and Foil. He is a 6 time South American Champion and a former member of the Argentina Pan American Team. He has a Fencing Master Degree from The National Academy of Fencing in Italy and is a former Assistant Coach for Italian National Fencing Team.
Alex Arutjunancs
- Alex is a master in all three weapons with his preference in Epee and Foil. He is a former team member of the Latvian National Fencing Team as well as a current Assistant Coach for the Latvia National Fencing team. He has completed a Master Degree in Fencing.
Saul Mendoza
- Head Coach and Owner, Saul coaches all three weapons. Saul is 3 time South American Champion, 5 year Bolivian Champion and former member of Bolivian's Pan American team. He competed in the 1984 Olympic Games in foil and epee and trains all levels of students; from beginner to international competitor. Saul has been coaching in the United States since 1988.
Karen Baumgart
- Karen, director of youth and cadet foil classes, brings her passion for the sport to every class. She has trained internationally on coaching techniques and encourages young fencers to participate in the local fencing community by staying involved, forming teams and attending tournaments.
